Academics
Academics
At High Point Christian Academy we emphasize academic rigor, utilizing an excellent, college-preparatory, biblically-integrated curriculum. Each classroom is energized by a challenging and supportive environment. Smaller class sizes enable our talented teachers to provide individual attention and to encourage students to perform at their highest level.
The results of our annual national standardized tests are indicative of our students’ success. High Point Christian Academy students have consistently performed at above-average levels in comparison to national norms. In addition, our graduates are annually awarded scholarships for outstanding academic performance. Past graduates include National Merit Scholar recipients as well as commended National Merit Scholarship designees. Our graduates pursue their education beyond the secondary level and have been admitted into outstanding colleges and universities across the country.
What makes HPCA academics different? Our biblically-integrated classrooms incorporate biblical principles, values, and teachings into the learning environment and curriculum. This approach integrates faith with academic subjects, aiming to educate students both academically and spiritually. Some of our key elements and ideas related to our biblically-integrated classrooms include:
Curriculum Integration
Subject Areas: The Bible is woven into all subject areas—math, science, history, literature, and even fine arts. For example, in science, teachers might discuss the creation story and relate it to scientific discoveries. In literature, students might explore Christian themes in various books or stories.
Faith-based Viewpoints: Students are encouraged to view their studies through a biblical lens. For instance, history lessons may highlight God’s influence in the shaping of historical events and cultures, or in literature, students may analyze characters’ moral decisions through a biblical perspective.
Character Development
Biblical integration emphasizes character-building aspects such as kindness, honesty, respect, love, and forgiveness. Teachers set aside time for devotionals or discussions about biblical virtues, helping students understand how to apply these principles in their daily lives.
Discipleship and Mentoring
Teachers act as role models, disciplining students and helping them grow in their faith. Mentorship involves discussing challenges students might face in their spiritual journey and offering guidance based on biblical wisdom.
Fostering a Christian Worldview
A biblically-integrated classroom teaches students to view the world through a Christian lens. This involves discussions on how God’s purpose for creation influences modern issues, such as ethics in technology, justice, poverty, and the environment. Students are encouraged to think critically and act justly in a way that honors God.
Encouraging Service and Community Engagement
Biblically-integrated classrooms often include service opportunities, teaching students the importance of helping others. This may include community outreach projects, mission work, or helping those in need. Service is not only a teaching moment but also an opportunity to live out biblical teachings.
Biblical Worldview Assessment
Teachers often assess students not just on their academic knowledge but also on their ability to apply a biblical worldview. This means evaluating how students integrate faith with their academic subjects and how they exhibit Christian values in their behavior.
Teacher’s Role
Our teachers demonstrate their own faith journey and guide students in understanding how to live out their faith in all areas of life. They engage in ongoing professional development to learn how best to integrate biblical principles in their teaching methods.
Our classrooms aim to nurture students' spiritual growth while providing them with a solid academic foundation. This approach seeks to equip students with knowledge, skills, and character traits that align with biblical teachings, preparing them not just for academic success but helping them to grow spiritually mature as well.
